News: Thanet’s World Food Day 2010 takes place today at the Winter Gardens, Margate
16 October, 2010
To mark World Food Day 2010, Thanet Fairtrade Initiative is holding its annual event at the Winter Gardens, Margate, today (Saturday, October 16) from 10am-4pm.
There’s dozens of stalls to look round; a cookery demonstration from Ian Dunkerley, of Dunkerley’s Hotel and Restaurant, Deal; hands-on activities for children; and a live performance on stage from African dance troupe U’Zambezi.
At 11am, we’ll be joining millions of other people around the world as we Stand Up Against Poverty.
And there’s also our international climate change conference, with an incredible line-up of guest speakers including Laura Vickery (The Co-operative), Toby Quantrill (Fairtrade Foundation), Duncan Williamson (WWF), May Kidd (Associated Country Women of the World), Julian Oram (World Development Movement), Laura Sandys (MP for South Thanet), Robert James (Thanet Earth) and Peter Brinn (environment consultant). The panel will be chaired by TV presenter and journalist Lucy Siegle.
We look forward to seeing you at the Winter Gardens, Fort Crescent, Margate, from 10am today … and a Happy World Food Day to all!
