International climate change conference
New for 2010, Thanet Fairtrade Initiative hosted an international climate change conference as part of the annual World Food Day celebrations.
The conference took place in the Queen’s Hall at the Margate Winter Gardens, Fort Crescent, Margate. It was chaired by TV presenter and journalist Lucy Siegle – a familiar face on BBC’s The One Show.
An incredible line-up of guest speakers included:
- Laura Vickery – international development manager, The Co-operative – “International development and sustainability”
- Toby Quantrill – head of public policy, Fairtrade Foundation – “Farming and food security”
- Duncan Williamson – programme manager for One Planet Food, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) – “The global environmental impacts of UK food consumption”
- May Kidd – world president, Associated Country Women of the World – “Women feed the world”
- Julian Oram – head of policy and campaigns, World Development Movement – “The relationships between food, finance and climate change”
- Robert James – technical manager, Thanet Earth
- Laura Sandys – Member of Parliament for Thanet South
- Peter Brinn – environmental consultant
